The "Younger" Older Sibling

Every parent wonders how a new baby will effect the older siblings...especially the "younger" older sibling. I must say that I really have been surprised with how Nolan has welcomed Owen. At first he really didn't pay much attention. Actually he still really doesn't. He continues on with his life as if Owen is not in it! Not that he doesn't occasionally show interest in him. There have been a few times when I have caught him poking his eyes and pointing to all his body parts as if he is his personal "body part" model! Owen usually is quick to let me know when he is being poked and prodded at! Nolan is actually very loving when he is taking care of Owen. He lets me know when it is his turn to be held and played with, but normally after about 10-15 min. of attention, his cup is full and he goes on with his day. He is such a sweetie. I am so happy with my boys. I'm of course just as happy that I have a darling little girl as well. Lauren and Nolan play so well together. I'm so excited to see Nolan and Owen play too! They are close in age so hopefully they will have a close bond. I hope all my kids are close. It is so much more fun that way!

Checkin out his new brother

Nolan is infatuated with all these new toys we have!

Lauren wanted a turn too!

Well, Lauren broke our last bouncer when Nolan was a baby, so here goes another one!

Lovin on his brother

Nolan being soft

And Nolan being not so soft giving his brother knuckles! Nolan and his daddy have this thing where they give each other high five and then knuckles afterwards! It's really cute!

Owen's Milestones

Our little sweetheart

First walk

His first few days home were under a bili blanket

When the blanket didn't work, they readmitted him to the hospital to monitor his jaundice
better. He loved how warm the lights kept him.

The blindfold he wore to protect his eyes

He lost his belly button shortly after this picture was taken

Owen's first week at church

Welcome to the World Baby Owen

Our new baby boy!

Owen Joseph Capel was born about 3 weeks ago September 8, 2009. Some friends of ours watched Lauren and Nolan while Joe and I headed to the hospital for a planned induction. I was induced with Nolan so I already knew the drill. Wake up way early to be there by 6am. Oh and of course you don't get much sleep the night before since there are so many things to think about! By 11am the Doctor came in to see my progress and my water had already partially broken on its own. She went ahead and finished it off and then the progress was much more speedy after that. Owen was born at 4:06pm. He weighed 7lbs. 13oz. Just like his older brother did! He is a very good baby so far. I have had lots of help so this is my first official week "on my own." Joe was home for the first 10 days and then my mom came out for the next 7. We are still working on a schedule. He likes to fall asleep while eating, making it so he gets hungry more often....this does not help my sleep time! I keep telling myself that it will be over before I know it. It is so true. Time goes by sooooo fast. Soon he will be crawling, talking, and walking. I love that I get to be home with my children to experience those special milestones with them. Time is so priceless.

Remembering September 11, 2001

Eight years ago on September 11, 2001 I remember exactly where I was. I was a sophomore in high school. It was about 9:30 am and I was leaving second period which happened to be a study hall in the library down in the Jr. High. As my friend Lauren and I were walking down the empty commons that connected the jr. high to the high school, another friend of ours, Brittney said something about a plane hitting the world trade center in New York. To be honest, I knew nothing about what the World Trade Center even was. When I heard that it might be a terrorist act, I knew nothing of what a terrorist attack was either. Call me naive! I really was! It didn't take me long to learn exactly what terrorists were! I don't know how many times we watched the news clips of the planes hitting the two towers. It was insane! My next class happened to be U.S. History. I loved that class. It was the perfect time to be in the class too. My teacher, Mr. Tuttle was very good about putting things into perspective. I remember feeling very upset about where our country was headed. I remember talking to my friend Cassie about how discouraged I felt. I was so worried that another country was going to take over ours and that there was no reason to carry on because soon we would be owned by someone else. I really had no idea! All I knew was what I heard and I was scared of losing our freedom. At that time I didn't realize how strong our country was/is. I didn't understand that the terrorists were a small group called the Taliban. I had so much to learn about war! I remember how patriotic our country became so quick! It was such a great and warm feeling. I was actually proud to live in our country. I still am. I remember feeling proud that my brother Cassidy was serving in the US Air Force. Little did I know just a few years down the road, I would be married and also my husband would also be serving in the Air Force. Not only would he be serving in the Air Force, but also deploying as a part of this war that started several years before. Even though we are still at war as a result of these attacks, I feel much more comfort knowing that we are getting closer to the end. I feel blessed that I live in a country that has so much freedom. America really is so lucky. God Bless the USA!
